About Terry
A little about me, my name is Terry Elverd and I was born and raised in Western Australia. I first saw my real hand pieced quilt back in 1981 while living on the Cocos Keeling Islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It was a hexagon quilt with very very tiny pieces and beautiful stitching. That was it for me. I knew as soon as I returned to the mainland that was what I wanted to do - make Quilts. We lived in Karratha, up in the Pilbara region from 1984 till 1999. There I worked as a Shipping Agent. In those days resources were scarces. Only one dress fabric shop run out of a shed in the industrial area, with not much in the way of cottons. I soon got the "Quilting Bug". As time went by we managed to collect a wealth of information and fabric.Whenever anyone went on annual leave they booked themselves into workshops so that they could share everything when they returned. We also sponsored a number of teachers/tutors to visit the region. A number of classes had 100/150 ladies at a time. Yes, we were hungry for knowledge and fabric. Lots of fabric. Since then I don't know how many quilts I have made. Some good and some not so good. Guess most of us are the same. My husband and I are now settled in Mandurah. A lovely area with Beaches, Canals, Estuary, and the Escarpment, approx 1 hour south of Perth CBD. The need for me to branch out in another area of business was very strong indeed. This is when I purchased my Gammill Classic Plus and started my own business "Classic Stitches". In March 2007 I upgraded the machine and had it fitted with the Statler Computerized assisted system. I have to say that it is one of the best business decisions that I have made. I am now able to offer thousands of designs for my customers to choose from. I am always on the lookout for new designs and feel that its very important to choose the right design to complement your project. I have attended many courses to keep myself up to date with new technology as it comes available, both here in the West and on the East Coast of Australia. |
